Donations and Tithing

Help keep The Nazarene Way On-Line

A tithe (from Old English teogotha or "tenth") is a one-tenth part of something, paid as a contribution, usually to support a Jewish or Christian religious organization. Today, tithes (or tithing) are normally voluntary amounts and paid in cash, by check, or on-line, whereas historically tithes could be paid in kind, such as agricultural products. The tithe and tithing first appear in the Bible in the Hebrew Old Testament (OT) in the book of Genesis in connection with the figure of Abraham.

Most religious organizations support their churches and clergy with monetary contributions of one sort or another. Frequently these monetary contributions are called tithes whether or not they actually represent ten-percent of anything. Tithing was an ingrained Jewish custom during the time of Jesus, but no specific command to tithe per se is found in the New Testament. However, references to tithing can be found in Matthew, Luke, and the book of Hebrews.

The Nazarene Way of Essenic Studies is a non-profit organization with the single goal of providing free access to ancient, suppressed or unknown texts relating to the Essene and Nazarene sects of early Christianity. To meet this goal, along with the development, maintenance and distribution of free content, The Nazarene Way relies solely on public donations to operate and maintain our Essene-based projects.

Thousands of hours are spent creating and maintaining The Nazarene Way of Essenic Studies which provides computing and network resources in an effort to distribute historical, biblical and other Essene based texts, manuscripts and reference works. The complete content of this research is then provided to the public free of charge through our web site.
